I am from New York and I was just recently charged with lieing about a police statement to an officer. I owed friends some money, and didnt have the money to pay them and I couldnt take them baggering me. So I filed a report on a robbery that actually did not happen. I was charged with a grade A misdemeanor and I have a court date soon. She offficer told me chances are you will just get probation or a fine, but do you think that I will be going to jail?

I have never done anything wrong, I dont have a record, I just made a really bad decision.. I never filed a report, they just followed up on me and I told her about how I lied because I felt guilty.
let me be clear.. i only made up the crime for an extra month of time to save up to pay my friends.. not for insurance fraud. I feel awful about it, the officer said chances are slim of you going to jail because you dont have a previous record what so ever,
