if you get really angry with someone to the point of hitting them in the head with a beer bottle, can you go to jail for it?
 
Yes. This is battery and most likely aggravated battery. Do yourself and the other guy a favor by walking away. Don't allow your beer-drinking freedom to be taken from you.
 
Its called assault - and yes, it is illegal.

Yes, you can go to jail for it, though if its your first offence, and that's all that happened, you probably won't.
