Can you give me advice on choosing art?

My living room and dinning room are visible to each other. Sitting on the sofa you see the painting hanging in the dinning area and vice versa. I have an Italian cafe scene in the dinning area. What would I need to place above the sofa to blend? Does it have to be an Italian scense also? Maybe Italian Garden? Does it have to have a similar frame and be a painting (oppossed to a print) like is in the dinning area. I'm on a limited budget, but I want something that looks nice.

Art is supposed to speak to you.

When you see something that strikes you in the gut, that is the piece you should have. It should have meaning for you and you alone.

Art does not have to follow any guidelines as to whether or not the colors blend with your decor. It must be a heartfelt decision.

Personally, I am sick of seeing pallid landscapes on walls in public buildings. To me, it says I don't care what you think or how you feel. I'm only here to balance a wall.

If garden scenes work for you, then choose some artist who has guts like Thomas Kincade or someone you admire. Make it real. Make it count.
