Can you get into an animation field with degree in comm. media and film/visual arts?

I currently finished my first year at University studying Communication, Media and Film and Visual arts (its a double major) however I was recently given the opportunity of taking an animation class, a field I have always been interested in, but was never certain about whether or not I had the skills. The class was a huge success and now I am debating on whether or not I should transfer to a college and focus solely on an animation degree or if you can get into the animation industry without a degree in purely animation but visual arts and film? Any advice from someone in or familiar with the field would be appreciated, thank-you
