Can you get arrested for taking food from an all you can eat buffet?

Okay, so every time I go to this all you can eat buffet with my family, my mom and I will take a little chicken or slices of pizza and stuff it in our handbags. We are careful and make sure no one sees us. We went today, and I took a piece of chicken and some fish. Later, my mom decided that she wanted some more chicken and some pizza. I started going through my handbag, not putting anything in it, and noticed the lady who was collecting the dishes peeking at me through the wooden panel where she puts the dishes. She saw me look at her and she pretended not to notice. Then I saw her left. I told my parents and they started to get suspicious. A little while later, a guy with a blue shirt came, took a quick look, and left. He returned shortly and said he had a little problem with us taking chicken, and not to do it next time. The lady had gone to the other side, but we knew she had ratted us out. My dad went and got a take out container so we could take the food with us. I left a "friendly" little note for the little snitch, by the way. But my question is, could we have been arrested for taking food? What if the lady had only seen my open my handbag but I had not put food in it and was falsy accused?
