I am 15. I had funduplication done when I was 1yr old. I was told that I cant drink alcohol. Is that true?

Hi Dean:

Alcohol is extremely irritating to the stomach and esophagus. You probably should not drink alcohol, particularly when your doctor has warned you not to. When you get older and can legally drink, you may be able to get away having just a little bit of wine here and there with food. That is what I do. However, I never have a sip of alcohol (I drink very little) or take medication unless I have food. Food buffers the irritants in these substances. By the way, smoking is also terrible for the stomach, throat and esophagus. These are all substances to stay away from if you have stomach or GI problems.

You may also not be able to drink coffee and eat fooRAB that are irritating to the stomach. Take very good care of your health and GI system, particularly if you are now symptom free. Nothing is worth experiencing chronic heartbun, I promise. You are very young and have a long life ahead of you. Take very good care of your body so your surgery continues to work and your body remains healthy.

Here is to your good health!

Rose
