Can you dodge a shot bullet?

Everybody seems to think that its invariably impossible to dodge a shot bullet and you're crazy if you think its possible. I dont see why thats true. It seems to me the effective range of a fairly high power rifle is about 500 yards or approx 1500 feet. So, there you are, running through the forest and you hit a field. You have a pretty good lead, so you keep running and when he bursts out, your assassins about 1000-1500 feet from you. From what I've seen, the average speed of a rifle like this is around 2000ft/s. That means you have at least .5-.75 seconds from when the light from the shot hits your eyes to when the bullet hits you, disregarding deceleration of the bullet. The average reaction time of humans is .2 seconds to pinch fingers together (catching a ruler); i wasnt able to find data for other actions. If you got in a low stance or had something to push off/on to, it seems very probably that you could dodge these bullets consistently, even disregarding increased reaction time due to adrenaline. Assuming he didnt start shooting rapidly at you...
i guess I've never seen a gun fired form the business end; I've only seen it in movies wher it always has the big star of light; it might be hard to see it in daylight. At night tho or w a big bullet, tho
