Can you disable chat in yahoo mail?

Whenever I sign into my email it signs me out of messenger. I find this really annoying. Is there a way I can disable the chat window or at least make it stop signing me out of messenger when I am just checking my mail?

sign out of chat on your email. Top left hand corner, right of where it says your name, which is right of where it says yahoo xtra. there's a little arrow next to where it says online, click and select 'sign out of chat'

I used to have that problem too. It stops 2 'computers' signing in to the same account (to stop hackers). Also if you open 2 windows with yahoo email it signs one of them out.
