Can you correct following sentences if you find any grammatical err?

How does lobsters' soft tissue grow in the rigid shell in a period between a molting and the next one?
Do they loosen joints or have spaces inside the the shell?

I always hesitate using "a" and "the" because I'm not sure how to use them.
 
Well, I'm not 100% sure if I would be right or not... Although here's what I would put.

"How does a lobster's soft tissue grow in the rigid shell in the period between molting and the next one?"

There was nothing really wrong with it.. I guess it's just the way you were taught.
Yours seemed fine to me. =]
