Can you confess to God alone?

Hey i was always curious in why do you have to go to a priest to confess? its not really there business i think it should be between you and God? what do you think? and will you be forgiven just like you would when you go to a priest? Thank you :)
 
Straight to God? no. We have to use Jesus and go through Jesus. Through Jesus we can go to God for this. Jesus died for our sins, so we need Jesus to free us from them. NO priest needed, just Jesus and then we all can go straight to God once we accept/believe in Jesus dying for our sins.

6Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really knew me, you would know[a] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

See above. We need Jesus to get to the Father, but man is not needed. Just us and Jesus and Jesus is God in the flesh and walked among us.

When you go to a priest to confess, God is acting through the priest. So, when you go to confession, the priest is kind of like Gods translator. You don't HAVE to go... through. But just remember Jesus died on a cross so we can get into heaven, I think we should at least try. God loves you the same either way. He might be more proud of you if you go to confession though.
It's always nice to go to a priest to confess. I know whenever I go I always get this happy feeling and I feel all pure and cleaned of sins. If you really CAN"T go to confess to a priest. And i don't mean you can't like your to scared, but you actually can't make it, God understands.
There are two types of sins Venial and Mortal. I was think, I can't say for sure, but I think that they only way you can be forgiven from a Mortal sin is by going to confess to a priest. But its still nice to go either way.
But i'm sure if you just murdered someone, and you truly are sorry, and its like the end of the world, and you can't go to a priest to confess, God understands.
Remember that whatever you say to a priest during confession, is between you and God. He is not allowed to tell ANYONE else. If you kill someone, the Priest can not tell anyone. And another thing, tons of people come to them everyday. Don't be embarrassed or anything.
 
You can but Jesus did not go off and leave us to our ideas of what he taught and for us to make them fit human desires. This is what is what is recorded in Johns Gospel Chapter 20 verses21-23----

21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
 
We are commanded in the new testament to not seek a priest. We are told that we are all priests (given that we are Christians). Priests are useless. Because of Jesus's sacrifice, we can and should go directly to God.

He is the one who clears away your sins when you repent, you do not need to tell anyone about your dirty little secrets & worry about it being out into the public assuming the priest is corrupt. Hey it can happen, they are human just like us.

because of human need to actually talk to someone who's there. subconsciously their not actually religious they're just fooling themselves.
 
You are absolutely correct. Earthly priests are, since Jesus' crucifixion, contrary to God's word concerning earthly priests. Jesus is our High Priest; we go to God through Him, not an earthly high priest, nor definitely, not through Mary.

Hebrews 2:16 *For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
17 *Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Since it's all subjective and opinion-based anyway, and since no one agrees with anyone else, maybe it makes sense to just decide for yourself how you want to do it. After all, it was just designed to make you feel better, so choose whatever way makes you feel better.
