can you burn cd's with a dual layer dvd burner?

i feel like this is a stupid question for me, but, i can't find the answer else where (not that ive looked that hard) so i'm asking here.
i just bought a new laptop (nice 3gb mem, 2ghz, 17 in hd, dedicated vid card etc etc) but, i would like to know if i can burn audio cd's with the included dvd burner or if i need to get one?
