1. Do you own a smoke alarm? Yes.
2. How many do you own? Six.
3. Where are they in your home? Bedrooms, major hallway and the shop.
4. How often do you replace your smoke alarm? I replace the batteries every year. If the alarm doesn't test out, then I replace.
5. Do you believe smoke alarms are safe? As in, do I worry about them hurting me? No. As in do I think they will protect me? A qualified "yes," they will help but they aren't a guarantee.
6. Did you know that there is radioactive material in you smoke alarm? Yes. So what? There is radioactivity in nature. I used to wear a wristwatch with a radium dial. I get x-rayed from time to time. No big deal.
7. Do you know how a smoke alarm works? Yes, actually, I do.
8. Do you have any concerns on smoke alarms? No. I consider them to be the equivalent of seat belts or air bags in my house. In a case of disaster, they are unlikely to hurt, and they MAY help. But I don't get any sort of false sense of security from them either. Not smoking, or not allowing anyone to smoke, in my house gives me a greater sense of security when it comes to fires.
