Can we still turn the tide, with the gridlock blocking progress for two years?

The last ten years have done America's standing in the world little good.

After 9/11 there was overwhelming sympathy for the US in most parts of the world (even some that were moderately hostile before). It was squandered within a few years of Bush-policy.

Also squandered were money and human lives, by starting a war for unproved reasons.

This enormous amount of spent money meant that the already faltering education-system turned only worse.
Many college-kids have trouble with writing in their native language now, while people in other countries are often proficient in one or more foreign tongues. When it comes to maths and science, the difficulty in many country far surpasses that of American schools in High School. Americans still learn these things in college, while those the same age are already specialising.

Some conservatives seem to be proud that they can block any attempt at improvement.

Will they still be proud when Americans will need to import skilled people in droves and they will have to work as their cleaners and nannies?
