Everything contains sugar, the package never specifies whether or not it's refined with bone char. I don't live near any health food stores (Whole Foods, etc) or anything like that, only regular grocery stores. It's not like I'm buying junk food packed with sugar, it's regular stuff -- juice, pasta sauce, peanut butter, oh my god everything contains it, I've tried phoning the manufacturer's company to no prevail.
I mean, technically, it's just refined with bone char, it doesn't actually contain it. And it's all such a hassle, I don't feel like I'd be making a huge difference anyway. Can vegans eat sugar refined with bone char? Do you consider it vegan?
Barbara -- I don't buy juice with added sugar, but most do contain sugar as an ingredient. Unlike you, we all don't have the time and money to make “natural” food. Yeah, it is easier to buy a 2$ jar of peanut butter than spend money on “natural” ingredients (that I'll have to research anyway) and take the time to make it.
Eat closer to nature and my problem will be solved? I'm sorry if you misread my question, but do not live near health food stores, we do not all have that luxury (and those places are ridiculously expensive anyway, sorry I'm not rich like yourself. It takes a lot of money to be close to nature). As far as regular stores go with natural products...yeah, I can buy fruits, legumes, vegetables, pasta, whole grains, but there's a hole $shitload of stuff I need to eat with it (pasta sauce, jam, soup, etc) and generally these things contain sugar... durr dee durr.
Oh my god those “sugar-free” nut butters are like 7$ for a tiny jar, are you kidding me.
