Need to make chocolate cupcakes, but where I live the local shops don't sell European cake ingredients. So they gave me this little packet with vanilla powder in it, but it doesn't even say "vanilla powder". instead, it says "Vani" and "Vanilline"- asian mispelling perhaps.
Can this be used in place of vanilla extract?
Also, I've seen vanilla extract or vanilla essence in supremarkets before, in a liduid form. What's the difference between the two, and which would be better to use- powder vanilla includedas well?
And this site I found on the internet said that vanilla extract substitutions can be maple syrup, almond extract, Fiori di sicilia extract, chocolate extract, vanilla essence, vanilla beans.
So basically, I learnt on that link that vanilla essence is like vanilla extract except it lacks to alcohol (don't know why cakes would need alcohol but anyway), would vanilla powder be the powder equivalent of vanilla essence (lack of alcohol)?
