yes
the DVD-5 DVD-9 is just single layer and dual layer. If you have a dual layer burner which most are in the past few yrs will burn both disk but you have to have a DUAL layer (DL) DVD disk to burn in the DVD-9 format. I have not tried to burn DVD-9 simply because the cost of regular DVD+/- R disk are cheap I pick them up for about $10 per 50 (Memorex or TDK) and the DL dvd disk are about $1 apiece
