Can u get a caluclated min colomn in mysql php?

is it possible to have a table of data including numbers nd strings e.g
first name second name time 1 time 2 time 3 fastest time

bob bobson 42s 52s 30s 30s

jim jimson 59s 40s 42s 40s

where the last column caluculates the min time and puts it in a coumn.

You find the minimum by using a query similar to this:
SELECT MIN(fast_time) FROM times

However, integral operators must be numbers only, so "42s" has a character, therefore will not work. You must remove the "s" if you want times to be compared.
