Can tonsil removal affect your voice/singing voice?

I'm fifteen, and my doctor has always suggested that I get my tonsils removed because I'm very prone to sore throats and swollen lymph glands, etc. The thing is, I love to sing. I always sing soprano and I think I'm best at singing high. Apparently removal of tonsils makes your voice deeper? Is that true? Because I really don't want that to affect my singing voice. I always want to sing as soprano--that's always kind of been a part of me.
