Let's speak hypothetically. What if there is a society or civilization cut off from everything else. In this society, you do not have much freedom. Everything is dictated. You are destined to be something some high command wants you to be. For example, since young, you will be destined to be a warrior to defend this civilization when you grow up. Or you are destined to be a farmer of all the crops for this civilization. You will be given your house or apartment block. You are not allowed to choose. The pay you get is determined by the high command and is the same for everyone.

Do you think this civilization can go far? Can this civilization get to improve itself to become a very advanced civilization with all the high tech we have today?

This society sounds a lot like Communism. A lot of people believe Communism would work and flourish in a society that Truly does work to achieve its communal goals. While yes it does stifle creativity and might make things boring, a society does not need to entertain, it is needed for security and to support its people. You need to make sure the people in charge your "high command" is truly for the people by the people. If there is any corruption the people will lose faith in their high command.

This civilization can flourish and go as far as the people are willing to take it. People do not need to like what they are doing in order to make it work. If they get what they need out of the deal then that is good enough.
