Can the wrong transmission fluid damage your car.?

If your transmission fluid is changed and the person puts other than the kind that is on the dip stick, will this cause problems? I was told it needed to be changed after going in only for a oil change, and since then my car has been jerking when I take off from at stop light or sign, it was not doing this before the transmission fluid was changed.

Yes, your transmission can be damaged by not using the proper fluid in it.
However, jerking when you initially take off could be caused by other reasons other than the transmission - have an experienced mechanic give it a quick road test.

Sounds like your transmission is gone. What usually happens is when you dont change your tranny fluid before 60k or whatever the manufacturer says. It will burn up and destroy various parts of your transmission. And when its finally changed its a bit too late so when you put nice clean fluid in. It just destroys it. Because all the metal shavings and crap that where in your old fluid are now gone so. You need a new transmission soon.
