Can the word "parameter" be used similarly to the words "range" or "boundary"?

I fear I may be confusing the usage of this word. For example, are the following correct, or should I substitute the word parameter for something else? I.e. "within a certain parameter of possibility" "remains within the parameters defined by" "within the parameters of its own abilities."

I mean to say like "within the boundary of its own abilities."
