I was in minor fender bender, and the plastic on the bumper cracked a little, but nothing too noticeable. The "estimtated" damage was $1400, my deductible is 1000 of it. I really don't want to spend that kind of money on the car if it looks cosmetically fine. So, my question is can my finance company make me fix it?
Oh yeah, my insurance company is sending me a check for the 400, can't I just send it back?

What about the check the insurance company sends? If it's made out to me and the finance company, should I just give it to them? If I keep it and I don't fix my car I'm sure it's some sort of fraud, right? I'm not a bad person, but I just feel like giving money to an overpriced repair shop!

You are not required to fix the car. Personally, I would send the check back ONLY IF THE INSURANCE COMPANY REMOVES THE CLAIM FROM YOUR RECORD.
Your finance company or bank will never know about the damage nor do they care. They just want to get paid back the money you owe them for the car.
Just remember you probably will have to fix the car at some time in the future unless you trade it in and then the dealer will make a deduction for the damage.

You're not required to fix the vehicle. However, I would return the check back to the insurance company and with drawl the claim. Any money paid out from an insurance company can cause your policy to be surcharged for 3 years and you'll end up paying higher insurance. The finance company will not require you to fix the vehicle. However in the event of a repossession the finance company won't be able to sell your car for full value if it has damage. If they can only sell your car for $5,000 but your loan is for $9,000 you'll be responsible for the $4,000 difference. I would see if you can find a cheaper repair shop to do the body work. But don't keep the check, turn it back in and with drawl the claim so you're not charged for an accident
