...'accepting Jesus'? fool a Christian into thinking they have been anointed with 'holy spirit'? Thus giving them special powers to discern understanding of scripture and who God really is.

After experiencing such an event, could it be said that the individual now has every reason to accept without question anything the bible says, whether it makes logical sense or not?

Can emotional phenomena in ones life, such as near death experiences, accident avoidance, falling in love, hero worship, be relied upon to make rational and informed decisions?
@sugar...In many ways I agree. I have personally experienced the attention of individual human angels at various times in my life. I almost (at the time) could swear God himself sent them.

Now I fully understand that acts of kindness, or simple words of encouragement, can heal and restore just like the miracles we read about. Our minds respond to our needs it seems.

I tend to believe that people who join or are drawn to religious life have very significant need of the calming and healing affect of turning over all ones personal burdens to someone else....even if that someone else is only in our minds eye.

It is why prayer can work for anyone, even those of us who are not really sure of god and the whole religion thing, can get a sense of looking outside ourselves. This to me is humility and a more real state of grace, than going around chanting 'Jesus saves'.
