Can stereos get less loud as they age?

I have a little Bose stereo that is about 5 years old now, and recently it seems that it can't play as loud as it used to. I don't completely thrash it, but when I listen to music I want to hear it and I've been forced to turn every volume I can find all the way up to achieve what I would call a medium to loud volume. Is it losing it's power or am I losing my hearing? (and I'm not btw lol)
 
You could actually be losing your hearing. Because i have had the same Stereo myself for four years and it seems to be just as loud as the day my parents got it for me. although it is rare that i play it at maximum or even high capacity before my parents would tell me to turn it down. may just be my stereo however. different stereos have different decay rates.
