This is a song from the late 60's or early 70's where the lead singer is singing softly, a flute adds a backup melody, and the entire band consists of only a few instruments (namely guitar, bass, flute and drums, with the lead singer (no background vocals)). I want to say it is Three Dog Night, as that is who it sounds like to me, but I don't remember the name of the song nor can I find it. It is a slow song, no screaming vocals or loud electric guitars, or anything else like that. Just a straightforward melody with lead vocal and flute.
All of these answers are good ones, but it's not what I'm looking for. Best I can describe is a Three Dog Night-sounding song, with the lead singer and flute taking turns in the lead. Also, the song is in 3/4 time instead of the usual 4/4 common time.
