Dear Mrs. Wilson:
For the Community Service Project, I decided on volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of Harlingen Association. As I spent long hours there, I learned how important the Boys and Girls Club Association to our community, because it is where the kids spend most of their time playing basketball.
As I entered the building on my first day, I felt terrified not knowing what to expect, but as I talk to the manager and the workers I felt relieved knowing I have people to talk to. As a volunteer, I was helping the Basketball sore keeper keep track on scores, fouls, and rebound. As I observed, I didn’t expect score keeping to be difficult. I always thought you just press the button every time a team score, but it was more than that. There’s a different buttons for every single thing. Later on, I got accustom to it so it was not hard to keep track on the scoring. The following day, I was excited to help the score keeper score, but the manager assigned me to something else. She wanted me to help make the posters for the Barbecue tickets, it was fun but it was not as fun as being a score keeper. The third day that I volunteered, the manager assigned me to help baby sit the little kids in the Teen Center where they played Rock Band, mini billiard, watch TV, and eat pop-corn. On the last day that I volunteered, the manager didn’t have anything for me to do so she just ask me to finally help score the basketball games. I really enjoyed scoring the basketball games the most because of coaches yelling, the parents go wild with their cheering, and the intensity each team gives.
I really enjoyed volunteering for the Boys and Girls Club Association and I am happy I chose this organization because I have learned so much from the experiences I had. I had fun every single day I volunteered and I don’t regret anything.
Sincerely,
Julyan C. Badon
