can someone help me with the theme of the novel To kill a mockingbird?

i have an extremely picky english teacher and she seems to bash every theme i came up with. well when i say "theme" i mean more of a phrase that the novel revolves around rather then just saying "racism is the theme" or "prejudice". My english teacher isn't a big fan of absolute phrases such as saying, "you need, you have to, you must"
