My son did not go to any daycare or headstart program. He was an only child up until he was four years old. I have always worked with him since I was a stay at home mom and him being my only child. So, I did spend lots of time with him. But, he has never showed any interest in coloring or writing. I could never teach him how to hold a pencil correctly either. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or could do better. Anyways, he has been to kindergarten this past year. (only half a day, though) He was tested in the beginning to see if he needed full day kindergarten and he did not. Also, it took him sometime. But, I do want to say he has improved alot. He just still has a hard time writing. I was stunned to hear a little boy in his kindergarten class, say, "Mommy, (my son's name) scribbles." I overheard the little boy today during our class field trip. I was a parent volunteer and accidently overheard. But, I knew it was true. He never wants to take the time to sit and write. Next year, he will be in school all day. I'm worried that he will have problems. I want to help him do his very best. So, I need ideas to get him motivated to write and learn to color in the lines. I have had parent/teacher coferences with his teacher several times, and she says his fine motor skills need alot of improvement. She gave me ideas about that, and I continue to work on those as well. (make fun games out of it) I have searched over the internet looking for ideas. I have bought those little dollar workbooks that Dollar Tree or Deals, Dollar General that teach kids from preschool, to kindergarten like on up to like 3rd grade or something.
I need to get him interested in wanting to sit down and write. I'm sorry this has been such a long discussion, but I'm really worried. I would appreciate any ideas.
What about a huge whiteboard with dry erase markers for him in his bedroom. And him a personal one, and I can kind of homeschool him during this summer before first grade. He will turn six July 4, 2009. School starts first week of August. Is that an age gap for kindergarten too? Thanks for answering my questions.

Sincerely,
Hopeful Mother
