Propane, C3H8, is often used as a fuel for heating. It burns to produce carbon dioxide and water. Write a balanced equation for this combustion reaction. The heat of combustion for this reaction = 2044 kJ heat released per mole of propane burned. How many grams of oxygen would be required in the combustion of propane to produce 334 kJ of heat?

A swimming pool, 31.9 meters long, 18.7 meters wide, and 4.10 meters deep, is filled with water. The temperature of the water is 26.2oC. The owner of the swimming pool would like the temperature of the water to be 38.1oC. How many grams of propane would have to be burned if all the heat from the combustion was used to heat the water to 38.1oC? The specific heat of water is 4.184 JK-1g-1.
