...MEPS depth Perception test.? Let me start off with I am very disappointed, and would like any answer to be written in a way that does not encourage me to commit suicide. In other words, please understand that this is the next 4 years of my life and being negative is only going to further depress me.
Okay, So i dropped out of Penn State, and decided that before I sold my life away to become an industrial engineer I needed to join the Navy.
So I took the asvab and made a 91! HELL YEAH
!
This joy was short lived. Next came the dreaded physical at MEPS. I passed as far as most requirements go. I made 20 / 20 in both eye and was proven to not be near or far sighted. However the depth perception test was harsh. I did not get past the third line, and I was not told what to look for in each circle. I failed, and was disqualified from becoming an AW ( the entire reason I am in the Navy). So me being a female I cried, for like ever. My recruiter took advantage of this moment of weakness and got me to sign into STG ( Sonar Technolgies) This is a horrible job, and I deserve better. How can I have a 91 on the Asvab and only get 3 job options (Hull tech, Construction, or Sonar Tech). Out of everyone who went to MEPS with me, I am the only one with no sign on bonus.. Even my recruiter said I should have been offered one. Anyway he told me if I could pass a civilian randot eye exam that they could wavier it, and get me into AW. Well I did reasonable ( I made an 8 out of 10) on depth perception test today. This is considered a bit above the average of 7. The doctor even wrote a letter saying my eyes were in fine condition, and there should be no problem with me going into aviaiton. I am going to take another depth perception test tommorow for futher reinforcement that I can see just fine. I have 20/20 in both eyes.
Do you think this wavier will be accepted? I am supposed to leave for boot camp on January 21, will I know before then? Any tips on how to do better next time around at MEPS?
Basically do you think im screwed into STG for the next 4 years, and is it uncommon to switch jobs. Is it too late to get out of this mess?
Im swore in, but not into active duty.
Please help
Please be detailed. I have been very depressed about it, and I have noone other than my recruiter (who lies compulsivley) to talk to about this.
