to go to. My health has deterioated dramatically in the last few years. I had left leg pain for years. Last summer I stopped being able to do much around the house and yard. I had back surgery in Ocr. 08, dental implants in Nov. 08, got a bad staph infection. In Dec. 08 I go really sick, extreme fatigue, stayed in bed over 2 wks. I went to the doctor my blood was all messed up low white and red count, low sodium, chloride, potassium, and anemic and body pain . I went to a hematologist. I tested positive for Lupus. He sent me to a rheumatologist . He said no Lupus, fibromyalgia. I went to another rheumie said no way was it fibro. Since then I have had increased fatigue. I go to work, come home go to bed. I don't go any where, do anything, no housework, no cooking, yardwork, grocery shopping. What the heck do I do? I do not have depression. What kind of doctor do I go to? I've been to a hematalogist, oncologist, nuerologist, rheumatologist, cardiologist, they all give up and send me some where else. Can somebody help me? I don't know where to go now. What kind of doctor? I am just watching my life disappear.
Thank-you,

Lupus and Fibro are two conditions that share similar symptoms with Lyme disease...for this reason, people with Lyme are misdiagnosed with Lupus or Fibro, and people with Lupus or Fibro are misdiagnosed with Lyme.

Lyme is called the Great Imitator because it can mimic many, many different condtions and this is one of many reasons it is very, very difficult to diagnose. For those reasons, given your symptoms, given your doctors' considerations, I would suggest seeing a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor to rule out/in Lyme Disease.

Thank-you Bethsheba . It never occurred to me it might be Lyme. It is so frustrating. I don't even know what Lyme is. I will do some research.

You're welcome, Sophie.

I don't know if it is Lyme or not but again, I do know that Lyme is often misdiagnosed as Lupus, Fibro, MS, and a myriad of other diseases.

As far as research goes, it's going to be complicated as there are many, many myths out there on government/university websites and other places....they haven't updated the info....and there is so very, very much that we don't know.

Our Lyme boards have some very knowledgeable people who have gotten the run around from many, many different specialists before finding a doctor who was knowledgeable enough to diagnose and to treat them...so you might want to check with some of our "local experts" in addition to doing other research.

Good Luck!

Hi There:
I must sound like a spokesperson for Sjogren's Disease, but you may want to get tested for that. It can mimic many different diseases. If you've tested positive for some auto-immune diseases processes like Lupus, that further makes me believe you may have Sjogren's. The fact that you had a mouth infection makes me more suspicious. Although there is no definitive test for Sjogren's, and the SS anti-bodies frequently unfortunately don't show positive in people who actually do have Sjogen's, you may want to consider having a lip biopsy done. This test can still give false negatives but is it seems to be the most definitive test for this disease. A lip biopsy can be performed in a dental chair in a few minutes using local freezing. Specs are taken from a few sites within the oral cavity, and then sent for review to a pathologist. White cell infiltration is pretty indicative of Sjogren's, which is actually the 2nd most common auto-immune disease in north america, despite the fact that most people haven't heard of it. (It is actually more prevalent than Lupus.) I was so relieved when I was finally given the diagnosis of Sjogren's because I'd originally been diagnosed with MS as I had all the weird neurological signs (but, oddly enough, no Sjogren's signs--those have only manifested quite recently). Best wishes to you and I hope you find your answers.
