I painted with oil for the first time today for a painting class. I am using the cheap student oil from winston. we are using ultramarine blue and burnt umber to make a black. problem is, i can't get a dark rich black. it always has a hint of blue or brown. i started the first layer, the composition is good and all, but it has that light blue or brown hue in all my values! it is hard to work with.
I'm starting the second layer today, can someone give me some advice to make a dark rich black? I thought it would be easy...
