Can someone give us an update on what's been happening in the NRL and the Toyota cup?

I've not been as up to date about the NRL this year and was wondering if you guys could give us and overall, overview of the NRL and the NYC.

I could do it myself, but i'm too lazy and this way you guys get points. Please more than just a link to the NRL site or Foxsports NRL.

It's easier to go to Wikipedia.

This season the NRL introduced a second on-field referee.[1] In the past, when the ball changed possession the on-field referee would have to change his position to stay with the defending team. He also could only observe the ruck from front-on. The two-referee system saves the referees some running back and forth to get into position as possession changes and also improves watchfulness over the ruck. It is generally agreed that it has sped the game up further too. In the Pre-Season, Penrith Panthers were tipped Wooden Spooners. So far, that is not how its going.

After a series of trial matches, the first round of the 2009 NRL season started on 13 March. Hazem El Masri broke the point scoring record, passing Andrew Johns.

In the NRL Queensland won their fourth consecutive Origin taking the series 2-1. The Selectors and Bellamy were questioned seriously and their job for next season is not guaranteed.

The Dragons and Bulldogs shot to the front of the competition and were seen as unbeatable favorites, a few losses by both of them has seen their chances drop, while surges from the Eels and Manly have seen them step into the race as serious contenders.

Cowboys, Rabbitohs, Warriors, Roosters, Sharks, Raiders, Penrith and Tigers are the teams that most likely will not feature in this years top 8. However Penrith and Tigers have slim chances.

Broncos have found form again while Melbourne and Dragons have dropped consecutive games. Meaning Dragons almost guaranteed at one stage Minor Premiership is in some doubt. The competition is evening out and people are calling 2009 the greatest season of Rugby league, with any team from 1 to 8 strong contenders for the title.

I haven't really followed the NYC, though Melbourne have played themselves into some form. toppling competition front runners Manly 31-0 last week. While Dragons are the other favorites.
