I am looking to buy a new computer in the near future, hoping for something that will be significantly faster for gaming than my current laptop.
The problem is that looking at the numbers, what is available now seems to be quite similar to what I am already using, even though my laptop is 2 years old and I am looking at high end desktops.
Processor:
2 year old laptop: Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
High end desktop: Dual Core Pentium i5 2.5GHz
I would think that two years of advancement would produce more than a 0.1GHz increase?
Video Card:
2 year old laptop: 1778MB GeForce 8600
New desktop: 512mb ATI Radeon HD
So the old one has 3x the mb as the new one? I don't understand
The numbers I used to look at to guide performance levels are staying the same or going down, how do I know what's good in terms of processor/video card power?
