I work for a company that has a profit-sharing plan and hands out a very large check at the end of every year. I am a manager and I was told that if any of my employees tell another employee what they made, they will be terminated. I thought that I was told in my HR classes that employees are free to reveal compensation, but I cannot recall for sure. Please only respond if you know what you are talking about and if you have a source to back it up, that would be great!
I know that it is a corporate policy. My question is whether or not the policy is illegal, I know that it is unprofessional but there are also a lot of laws out there that are designed to free up information in the business world. I just finished my MBA last year and was fairly sure that this policy is not legal but am looking for others insight. I think we can all agree that just because a company has a policy does not mean that it can legally be enforced.
