Can somebody give me tips on how to authenticate and judge sword qualtiy?

I am an amateur sword collector with three pretty good swords to start with.

However, as I look around for somewhere to get another good sword, I find myself asking "is this real, and how do I know?" So I look to yahoo! answers and you to help me.

If you have any experience or tips in buying, selling, authenticating, or have overall knowledge of swords, please give me tips on how to know if the sword I'm buying is the real deal, or another cheap anime piece made in Ohio. Btw, I'm more interested in European and middle-eastern sword than Japanese Katana, Tanto, etc...
 
Yahoo or google medieval arms or swords of the ages, many sites exist and many will certify or authenticate their swords. Many forgeries exist, but by looking at museum sites, a true sword of the era will be represented.
Metal work throughout the ages has changed, and can be subjected to testing for newer materials that were not available in olden times. Regimental swords will usually have regimental markings that will give a timeline of manufacturing.
 
if you are shopping in a store that sells store, tell the owner you have to test its quality, tell him to hold out his arm, if it slices through his arm with no or some difficulty, its quality, if it just gives him a scratch or not even anything its GAY!

if your buying online, tell the owners of the website that you would like the sword in action, make them send you a video of them cutting off their own arm or the arm of their friend, but id def only buy locally! online are mostly gayness swords!
