I was driving a company car for eight years putting 50,000 kms a year. I started having pain in my right buttucks in 2005. When I reported it to the doctor he suggested obus form. In fall 2007 I found myself in chronic pain sitting walking standing. When I reported to work they dismissed me. I put a complaint into worker comp stating long time sitting has caused the problem. After a cat scan they find slippage at L1 S5.

The dctor states long time sitting does not cause back problems.

My questions is there anywhere I can find information stating long term sitting can cause back problems?

Enter - sitting, back pain - in your search engine, quite a bit there. Also, do you have teamsters union up there? They have some literature about disability due to back pain from driving. Good Luck...

I do know that sitting is one of the most painful positions for me because it puts tremendous stress on my lower luraber spine, which has abnormalities due to degenerative disc disease. Please keep us all updated about your condition!

I don't know if too much sitting is the actual cause of back problems (well, except for posture related problems) but I do know sitting is one of the worst positions for your back. SItting puts the most pressure on the spine, so if you have DDD, arthritis, or slippage, it will make things worse by too much sitting. When I sit too long, my left toes get pins & needles or slightly nurab, I get pain & achiness in my seat area and my spine & other joints get very stiff. When I have a herniation or sciatica, sitting is horrific! It compresses nerves even more and causes more pain.
