Can playing rented video games hurt your PS2 dvd player?

I had a PS2 and I used the DVD player a lot for movies. Now, I never rent movies, I always buy them so I know they are brand new. However, when I bought my PS2 I rented a couple of video games from Blockbuster. The discs were mildly scratched, but they worked okay. Nothing was on them. Now, my question is can those video game discs affect my brand new discs in any way?

no. no matter how scratched the dvd/cd is, it will never touch any of the reader components (ie lens), so the worst that can happen is that the game console wont read the media.
