Can permanent marker hurt you?!?

I really want to draw a flower ring on my finger.... All this week (so far) and all of last week I kept on drawing a really pretty flower ring on my finger with a pen. It would always wash off with water and I was thinking... What if I drew it with permanent marker? If I did draw this ring on my finger, could it damage/hurt me in anyway?

BTW I know how to remove perminant marker :)
 
Supposedly you can get skin cancer from it..
But I've been drawing all over myself since I had access to things to draw with, lol.. No problems yet.

I covered my entire forearm with Sharpie and I'm aliiiiiive!
