can Orange (phone company) unlock my iPhone4? (in france)?

I have an Orange phone plan (just a sim card, which i pay monthly)
this sim card is currently in an unlocked iphone 3G

I have an iphone4, and want the orange sim card to work... but the iphone4 is locked

Is it possible for orange to unlock this iphone 4 to use with their company's sim card, even though i did not buy the iphone4 from them?

Orange wont unlock the iPhone 4 unless it is locked to Orange network. You have mentioned that you are in France. But you haven't mentioned to which network it has been locked to?
