Can only guards and small forwards being in contention for best player of all time?

Every time i hear people talking about best players of all time i heard guards and small fowards like Michael Jordan, Kobe, Lebron, Magic, and Bird. But i never really hear Power Fowards of much less even Centers.
Bill Russel has 11 rings and that's worth mentioning. Kareem is the all time leader in scoring and had the hook shot which was almost unblockable. Am i missing something or which can't big men be called the best players of all time?
 
No wilt chamberlain and karreem are not guards and small fowards and they are considered some of the best players of all time.
 
because big men like centers and power fowards are more used as the last line of offense and
you mostly want to get the ball to your SF's or guards who can shoot the ball better than PF's or C's
thats why they get the credit for being the all time greats
