can old gas cause an rc car not to start?

i have a nitro RC car and i built it and i got all the parts together but it wouldn't start when i put gas in it. the gas that i used was old gas i had from my rc airplane and i was wondering can it cause it not to start? cause i don't want to buy a whole new tub of gas and have it not be the problem
