Can my son have my mother-in-law's traits?

Obviously, my son got his Y chromosome from his dad. And, his dad got his Y chromosome from his dad, not his mom. Which means, my son does not have any of my mother-in-law's genes. She keeps saying that my son has her traits (her smile and her facial expressions). But, is that actually possible given that he does not have any of her genes?
