My sister drinks a bottle of 13% red wine a night (sometimes a glass or two more)
She didn't drink at all (ever) until she was 34 (she's now 42) then she just seemed to get the taste for it.
She wants to give up, but she's afraid of having withdrawal symptoms (fits etc) so she's cutting back then she says she'll stop completely.
However, She has also scared herself silly because she has heard about the death of Emma Pyecroft and started looking up alcoholic hepatitis/ liver disease etc on the internet. She is convinced she has done herself some damage.
She did have an ultrasound scan of her liver done last year (and liver function tests) because she had a suspected ulcer or gallstones or something. Her liver looked fine then, and there was only slightly elevated bilirubin levels (which is normal in our family) She doesn't want to go back to the doctor and ask again as she doesn't want "wino" on her notes. So is it possible for her to get tested privately without her doctor knowing?
She's worked herself up into some state, and so I thought I'd ask on here.

What if there is something wrong? You will have to tell your doctor. Just tell her to go see her doctor, the internet is the worst place to look. She could convice herself she has the black death if she believed all that was read on-line.

There are private GP services at London main line services, I am sure if she pays the fee a private GP will refer her for liver function tests. She will also have to pay the fee to the laboratory which conducts the test.
