Can my iPad get a virus?

I received an iPad for Christmas, and I want to register with iTunes. But, the home computer my family uses is not 'clean' and I am avoiding connecting my ipad to it. I am not an ipod, ipad, computer person ( I am not big into the latest technology) so I have no idea if doing so is detrimental to my new toy. Can my ipad receive a virus, malware, ect? Once again, I am not computer savy, so keep any explinations simple. Thank you.
