OK, here is the situation. 5 years ago my grandmother co-signed for me a new car. This was sue to a car I was owed from years ago when I gave her one of mine after she wrecked hers. Because of my credit we both had to be equal owners on the car-her owner #1, me owner #2-both of our names-no and/or. About a month ago I was worrying about my car holding up since we had put so many miles on it, she only drives about 3x a week. So-we decided (equally) to trade vehicles as hers is a HONDA (everlasting) and the financed one in both of our names is an AVEO (enough said). So, she put the Honda (her car, promised always to me as a second car in the event of her death or stopping driving) completely in my name. The AVEO (the car we owned together, financed together) remained as is. This was never deemed a permenant situation, and we agreed that we would trade back in several months. Meanwhile, my aunt (who has some form of Power of Attourney over my grandmother), became very concerned because I was not covered on insurance to drive the Honda, only the AVEO. So, instead of acting like adults and calling me and all of us working it out, I was taken off the AVEO policy-it was in my grandmas name with me as a driver. NO problem, all I need to do is go get a new policy on either car, except for the fact that now I have lapsed coverage and the premiums will be more...ugh. Oh and by the way, she decided to go ahead and oay off the $3000 left on the AVEO-I made the payments for half the time, she the other as a favor to me while I was in school.I have done ALL of the financial upkeep on BOTH vehicles-tune-ups, oil changes, shocks, struts-you name it, well over $4000 JUST TO KEEP THE AVEO RUNNING, it should have been treated under the lemon law but missed it by a week or so. ANYway, now she has paid the car off and says I cannot have it back-mind you I am perfectly willing to take her HONDA back to her, I am not trying to take both or encourage her to stop driving-allthough she needs to (she has had 4 accidents and is 85! THe only reason she went ahead and signed the Honda over t me is so that I would not have to fight my insane family to get it after her death..sad, but true. My family has issues!!! So, now my aunt has brain washed her-I call today to say I will be up this weekend to swap out the cars as it is time for some work on the AVEO and my Firestone account is in SC where I live-she flips out and tells me I cannot have my car back???? Mind you I am returning the Honda as was our agreement..My basic question is this? If both of our names are on the loan and registration, can she remove my name from the title legally without my knowlege or consent?? I have contacted DMV for help aslo and I posess all maintenance records of the car as well as the registration and the proof of purchase showing intent that the car was indeed for ME!!! Please help me-this is so unfair and my family is crazy!!!
