Can my employers contact me on my mobile of it's not on my personal details?

I got sent home from work due to illness and a higher up manager called me on my mobile,although it's not on my file to ask me to go back to work.
He got my number from his girlfriend, should he have done this?
UK answers only please.
Best bit is that although work sent me home they are now refusing to pay me as he phoned me up to go back!
