Can my doctor do say this? Should I complain?

Last year I was getting these sharp, stabbing pains around my right ovary. I was told it was ok over and over again. It took my doctor 6 months to refer me for a scan. I was told this showed I had a polycystic ovary on the right, and that I should look it up on the internet to find out more about it and then sent me away.
A couple of months ago I moved to a different area and therefore got a new doctor. The pains are still there, they come and go when it feels like it and is just so painful when it happens that I have to stay still as any movement makes it worse.
My new doctor was a little quicker to get me another scan, but the result of this scan showed that everything was normal. Not even any signs of polycystic ovaries.
Whats that all about? Can it just go away?
I also have IBS but i have had this for several years and know this pain is 'lower down' and not related, and the pain is also moving into my lower back. What does my doctor do then? But refers me to physio. Im not really sure what good that will do.
Also, last week I made an appointment to clear this up. Obviously it is my body and I want to know what is up. The answer I got was that she 'cannot know everything and sometimes questions dont get answered'.
Is this really right? I mean, I dont want massive tests or anything, I want to know how my body can do this, and what the pain is.
Im 26.
I had an abnormal smear at 21 and had a colposcopy. Also been told I had/have HPV.
My smears are ok now, but obviously Im a bit concerned with that area as I have been told it will be difficult to conceive in the future.
Another scan a couple of years ago, the nurse asked if I had had a miscarriage. Which I had not, (not even been pregnant as far as I know) but she said it looked like it.
And yeah, the scan was an 'inside' one.
So now it just seems my ovaries and that whole area have a life of their own and I have no clue whats going on!!

How strange!
I had that pain last night, it was really hurting I couldn't get comfortable in bed and couldn't sleep. It hurts when I move and when I press around the area.

Somehow I managed to sleep through the pain but its still there now.

U definetly need assessing. Ask for a second opinion and demand to be refered to a hospital specialist!!! My mam had a cyst, they only found out tho when it burst and she was in agony, passing blood. Cysts do not always show up on a scan by the way, but if u are getting the pains then your dr should not be over looking it.

I agree with Cary Z, but there are types of cysts that can come and go, especially if you are due on your period. I had a scan last week as I was pregnant but I had a miscarriage and this is the type of cyst I have. Apparently they come and go.

Corpus luteum cyst: This type of functional ovarian cyst occurs after an egg has been released from a follicle. After this happens, the follicle becomes what is known as a corpus luteum. If a pregnancy doesn't occur, the corpus luteum usually breaks down and disappears. It may, however, fill with fluid or blood and persist on the ovary. Usually, this cyst is found on only one side and produces no symptoms

First of all I'd find another doctor if it's possible. The first two definitely are not doing their jobs as far as I'm concerned. They should have looked up the information for you and then explained it to you. The pain moving to your lower back worries me, and it should concern them. Something is wrong you know your body and if it's telling you something is wrong it is. Unfortunately you're having to go through way to many physicians to get to the root of the problem. Best of luck.

They should have at least looked it up for you, when im asking for things past their general knowledge they either get a text book out or print information off for me from their database id ask for a different doctor and another scan in a few months, i had a scan and she couldnt even make out one of my ovaires which was worring but she just shrugged and said sometimes the scans dont show much up, and if you do have polysystic ovaries it is usually in both
