i have a 20 gallon tank and had 3 neon tetras, 3 platy fish, a 4 inch catfish which is an unknown species because it was given to me by someone, and a skinny 2 inch brown fish also given by the same person. recently, 2 neon tetras and the brown fish are missing. i am really confused and only came to the conclusion that the catfish ate them. they all seemed to be doing well. there is no way they could jump out and i checked under the plastic log and rock thing i have for them. nothing. i am hearing that if they died, the catfish would eat them, which makes sense to me, but they seemed fine. what really gets me is that the 2 inch fish was gone. it was to big for this catfish's mouth, or was it? i am just perplexed...an mad my fish are gone. i don't want my last neon to get eaten either. :( someone please help me figure this out. i need to know if i should get rid of the catfish if he is the problem...
maybe identifying the fish will help you answer my question. my catfish is about 4 inch long with 3 whiskers on each side. he has black eyes and is grey and white mixed. he has a shiny head that kind of looks a little green and a tall dorsal fin with a black spot right where it starts.
i shouldnt say his head is shiny.... and figured he looks green because he was under a plant.... wow....ik...

Picture?

Some catfish will eat tankmates in a heartbeat. While some get along just fine. And the description you gave could match quite a few catfish...
