CAN MY APPLE TREE BE SAVED?

I was planting a dwarf apple tree. When adjusting it in the ground, I must have used too much force, causing it to snap in half towards the base. now I am left with the root portion and a little nub in the ground and the whole top half just completely severed. Can it be saved? I have it in water at the moment, what else can I do, is there any hope?
